POs and SOs Are Changing Names and How It Affects You

Names matter. And POs and SOs are getting new ones.

POs will now be called Purchases.

SOs will now be called Sales.

This change will go into effect in December 2021 and will be visible throughout the Backbone app. You can find these changes in the process line where the formerly known as Purchase Orders will now be called Intakes, and formerly known as Sales Orders will now be known as Shipments.

In columns, you’ll see Purchases (formerly POs) shortened to PUR and Sales (formerly SOs) shortened to SLE.

Please note that this is a naming convention change only. Purchases and Sales will operate the same as POs and SOs worked previously. The functionality will not change.

Why change names? To avoid confusion and align with traditional naming conventions. Outside of Backbone, the functionality of POs and SOs doesn’t usually affect inventory. For example, they intend to buy but are not necessarily an actual purchase. However, in Backbone, they do affect inventory. A purchase is a purchase like a receipt, and a sale is a sale like an invoice.

This simple change with important information sets everyone up for the future. If you have questions, please reach out to your Backbone representative via Intercom or at [email protected], and we’ll help. Thank you for being a Backbone customer.

It’s your process. Let’s envision it together.

If you are looking to scale efficiently, prepare for global trade, align with GMP/ISO standards, or just simply get off of spreadsheets to ensure you are audit-ready, Backbone is the platform to help you do it right.
