The success of the company relies on us bringing in new customers and we’re closing new deals every week with the most exciting names in cannabis and hemp. The role of Sales Ops is critical to the success of the sales team, owning the foundation of our team will power effective growth. 

We are a California-born company, serving customers globally. Around the world, cannabis and hemp growers are facing an increasing market demand. Producers are faced with new challenges in their supply chain on an unprecedented scale. Founded in 2017, Backbone created a pioneering supply chain management software to solve these problems. Our team has witnessed first-hand the struggles and challenges cannabis and hemp growers faced in Humboldt County, CA and across the country, and we are inspired to solve their problems. 

Backbone lets owners and operators take control of their process, helping them run their businesses more efficiently while improving visibility and ensuring compliance. As our customers’ needs grow and change, so does Backbone, and our goal is to help them succeed. The Backbone team consists of engineers, product managers, and savvy problem solvers from Oracle NetSuite, Sage Intacct, and Intuit, working alongside seasoned Humboldt County cannabis operators with decades of experience. Current customers include some of Cannabis’ best brands, like Cookies, Natura, Eden, and Big Oil. 

The Sales Operations role will evolve with the company. You will essentially be the operational counterpart to the Head of Sales, supporting behind the scenes while they spend more time in the field helping to close deals. To start the role will include the following responsibilities: 

  • Own our sales process, stages, and the way we track pipeline

  • Own sales reporting and record-keeping; what data we capture and how we report on it

  • Assist with marketing funnel reporting as is it relates to sales pipeline

  • Manage and build out our sales toolset

  • Manage sales content repository and priorities for content needs

  • Manage and maintain sales contracts and contract process

  • Build and manage sales territories and BDR target account lists

  • Support and help evolve BDR workflows: toolset, cadences, reporting, etc

  • Work with finance to ensure accurate billing and commissions

  • Provide additional support to Head of Sales and Chief Strategy Officer, as needed

Our ideal Sales Operations candidate: 

  • Has an appreciation for cannabis and hemp, and of its value in wellness, adult-use, and in industrial products

  • Has at least 2-3 year of SaaS sales operations or sales enablement experience.

  • Has a strong working knowledge of Salesforce and experience using other sales tools

  • Will have an opinion on how we should build the foundation of our sales team

  • Takes an iterative approach to process and best practices, always working to understand and improve our strategy and tactics.

  • Is growth-oriented and wants to build on their career within Backbone

  • Is goal-oriented and biased to action, motivated to go above and beyond

  • Is able to thrive in fast-paced startup environment 

  • Is able to manage time effectively, work independently, and be self-motivated

  • Is excited to partner alongside marketing and sales to help us streamline the way we work.
